The Greasoline® process

The Greasoline® process converts bio-based oil, fats and fatty acids, both unused and used, into fuels, fuel components and fuel gases. Unlike biodiesel and bio-ethanol, the liquid products contain no oxygen. Thus, they can be used for drop-in biofuels that act just like fossil fuels in handling, storage and application.

Protected by various patents, Greasoline is dedicated to produce fuels and fuel components in the diesel, kerosene and gasoline boiling range. Along with the liquids, methane to butane hydrocarbon gases arise and can be used for Bio-LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) production or to upgrade biomethane to 100% bio-based SNG (Synthetic Natural Gas), for example.

No hydrogen addition is needed. Activated carbon acts as catalyst and can be re-activated after use.

Raw materials

The Greasoline® process can use a very flexible feedstock supply of various raw materials and residues. The technology also permits the processing of materials of lower quality and wastes, like the residues from processing used frying oils to biodiesel, or raw material fractions with higher water content which cannot be used in alternative technologies.

Advantages over alternative technologies

Compared to alternative technologies like fluid catalytic cracking or hydro treating, the great advantages of this process are th

Tropfen

it may be economically run in local plants starting at a size of 50,000 tons annual production capacity,

Tropfen

it runs at atmospheric pressure,

Tropfen

it is feasible without the addition of hydrogen
(which is still industrially non-producible from renewable resources),

Tropfen

it offers a flexible selection of raw materials and is therefore not solely dependent on single commodity
markets,

Tropfen

and yet it supplies a very high product quality.
